On the Way Athens
Summer 2020

We thank God for the opportunity we have to send you the On the Way newsletter!
The Covid-19 outbreak affected us all. None of us is the same as before. We try by all means to help the homeless people in our city.

The arrival of summer has found us doing the following activities:

A. We continue our support with the re-issuance of their ID cards. Ever since the opening to the public in early May, we have helped 20 of our fellow human beings by re-issuing their IDs.

Β. We continue our support by helping them filling out their income tax application forms. Since our opening to the public in early May we have helped over 35 people with their tax returns so far, while last year we helped 10 people.

C. We were asked to find a wheelchair for a homeless friend. Within a day the chair was found and handed over to him.

D. We worked together with Exit which is a ministry of the young people and teenagers of the church that supports the homeless.

Ε. For the whole month of July we offered the Social Breakfast where we served breakfast daily to people living on the streets. On the last day we organized a big party with juggling, coffee and a huge breakfast.

F. For the month of August, after our Sunday church services, the volunteers of On the Way will distribute food to people who live in a state of homelessness and have been registered on our list. By doing this we want to show our fellow beings that we continue to be by their side even though many of us will be on vacation.

G. We work closely with EMPHASIS, an organization that helps people on the brink of homelessness, by providing a room for their scheduled meetings with people in need of support.

We are thankful:

  • To God who has protected us all this time
  • To God for the financial and psychological support He gives us all this time
  • For our volunteers for being there.
  • To God for allowing people to see who He is.

We pray:

  • For the situation in our country where Covid -19 cases now begin to have an increasing course.
  • To find a place where we can move more centrally, in the area of Omonia.
  • To be able to have more collaborations with governmental and non-governmental organizations, so that the church of Christ will be a tool for many in the city.
  • Lately we see the need of a local business so that the homeless people can get a job and work there.
  • For God to give us discernment for every situaltion we are called to face.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of this family!

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
