Dan and Susan SteereHeading for Ghana

Starting off a busy 2020 with a 3 week trip to Ghana

Dear Partners in Ministry,
I’m flying out this afternoon for Ghana via Atlanta and New York (JFK).  I think it will be a very productive trip since it seems the enemy has been more active than usual these last couple of weeks.  In addition to my usual battles with pre-trip spiritual warfare, our roof developed a leak in the master bedroom.  The household, as a result, has been topsy-turvy for the last 2 weeks.  Thank the Lord, the leak was fixed by a good friend who is a roofer and the damage was confined to a small section of the bedroom.  It has been dried out and will likely wait until I return home for the rebuilding portion of the repair.  Pray for Susan’s patience in the meantime!

As for Ghana, I’m leaving a week in advance of the rest of the team because I will be teaching two conferences in two new venues.  My friend Yaw Oppong, a Sector Head for the Ghana Baptist Convention, has asked me to teach on Biblical Leadership.  So I will be summarizing some of the material from 1 Timothy for those conferences.

On 1 February the rest of the team will arrive. Dan Gilchrist and Walt Novikoff will fly from the U.S. and Don Mountan and Ray Warwick will arrive from Uganda.  They will be teaching in both Kumasi and Sunyani as we start the curriculum sequence all over again for new students.  Praise God! Joseph Appiah will be teaching one of the MINTS classes in Sunyani, initiating our plans for making these two institutions self-sustaining.  While they are teaching MINTS classes, I will be teaching through 1 Timothy in Kumasi.

During the final week, the MINTS classes will continue, but I will be teaching on Biblical Discipleship to the national convention of Challenge Enterprises, a Christian training organization that works throughout Ghana.  This will be my first opportunity to work with them, so please pray me through that week (10-13 Feb) as I teach new material!  Ask the Lord to bless His truth to the hearts, minds, and practice of those attending.

With God’s blessing, it will be a good time of ministry.

HERE ARE SOME PRAYER REQUESTS:

For safety as we travel from different parts of the globe to Ghana.

For God's blessing on the classes and conferences - that God's people will grow in their relationship with Him and that Christ's church will benefit through greater maturity.

For Walt as he has his first teaching experience in Ghana: ability to communicate cross-culturally and joy in teaching OT introduction.

For the other teachers, including Joseph, that God will bless their teaching for His glory.

For me, as I speak to the Challenge Enterprises conference: clarity, conviction, and connection. I'd love to see this opportunity develop into a regular relationship.

One more request: I have accepted an invitation to speak on African Church History in Alexandria, Egypt in late March.  (What an opportunity!!) I’ll have about a month to prepare and head back overseas again.  Please pray for my recovery and preparations and for God’s blessing on those who attend this session.

For Christ’s Kingdom,
Dan
