SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED...

God moved a Sunday School class to raise funds to place an IPad Pro into the hands of Bishop Theophile RUGUBIRA.  I have worked with this brother for nine years and watched him tirelessly spend his life serving Jesus Christ and the churches.  Dave Forbes organized this project, we carefully selected apps that would enable him to do amazing Biblical research in commentaries, bible translations, Greek and Hebrew words, and to write it all out for distribution.

When I arrived, I spent two sessions tutoring him in how to use the Ipad and the apps.  He is a fast learner and once again resourcing leaders will produce far more fruit than any one of us could produce.  God be glorified!

In between the two conferences, our team attended worship at Theophile Rugubira’s Church.  The music involved 5 choirs ranging from 5 year olds to adults.  This woman is introducing her child to praising God at an early age!  There are more ways than one to provide nursery.   I preached during the service and was much encouraged to see their response to the Word of God.

OVER 185 PASTORS AND LEADERS GATHERED IN KIGALI

This time for translation of our notes, we utilized the skills and experience of a young man born in the DRC who is now in his thirties.

Olivier grew up in Rwanda as a child after his father moved to pastor in Rwanda following the genocide.   Olivier became a believer as an adult, walked past schooling in the medical field to study at a seminary.  He is now close to finishing a degree at a seminary.  It is rare to find a man who speaks Kinyarwandan, Swahili, French, English, Ugandan PLUS he knows Biblical studies and Theological concepts.  Amazing.  I met Olivier over a year ago, he has travelled with me to attend two conferences.  He fell in love with our work with these many churches.

Ephesians was well received, the pastors were intensely engaged in the entire course.  Their grasp of subjects such as: God’s grace, His eternal and timely plan (Eph 1), their view of man’s need for life from death (Eph 2), development of moral integrity through a walk with Christ, growth as believers, plus a focus on the job description of pastors for making disciples.

As modern false teachers multiply in East Africa, some claim to be “apostles”. Through Ephesians, we gave a thourough biblical response to the uniqueness of the Apostolic office in the early church.  They expressed deep appreciation for the answers given.  The list could go on...

More than just the learning of Ephesians was communicated.  For two weeks we modeled how to interpret Scripture and how to expound God’s Word verse by verse, chapter by chapter.  The impact once again will be a change of preaching in the churches.

jmjul18cBrick Lane Community Church in Elverson, PA provided Kinyerwandan Study Bibles
(NIV Study Bibles in their language)

For the second week, just like the first on DRC border, pastors received Bibles giving them the ability to apply and study on a depth never experienced before.  The joy on the faces tells the story.  Not only is the gift of God’s Word, it is a resource to become better students of the Bible and better pastors teachers.  Believers throughout the Kigali region will benefit.

It is our goal through believers in the USA to continue to place these Bibles in the hands of all the pastors we are teaching in the conferences.  As I return in the winter, I expected God to continue to make this resource available to more.
