From Joel McCall:
LEAVING FOR UGANDA AND RWANDA
MARCH 10 - APRIL 1
ONLY 6 1/2 WEEKS FROM NOW!
NORTHERN UGANDA

jmuganda

Almost two years ago I travelled with George Byabagambi and a team to the northernmost area of Uganda for two weeks of conferences. The last week was a pleasant surprise as we went to a town called Nebbi. This was my first contact there, it was the region at the center of a 20 year civil war in Uganda. This town was the entrance for Kony as he terrorized churches and children with vile abuses that are unspeakable. In fact, the town still experiences occasional raids from these rebels to steal food. God is always at work in hardship.

What I discovered in this isolated area was a thriving and organized group of pastors who have carried the Gospel forward through bitter hardship and danger. It is the only place I have been in Uganda where the pastors gathered and were ready at 9AM ready to learn. The place was packed, people were seated inside and outside.

By God's grace, I am returning with George Byabagambi (Ugandan Bishop), Martin Martin (a church Elder at Christ Covenant), and Rick Renninger (ELI staff and Elder at Community Evangelical Free Church) to teach a course in "Biblical Interpretation." I am praying that the Lord will truly teach them new ways to study God's Word. I believe this will not only enrich their ministries, but it will also transform how they will preach and teach.

The long-term goal is to equip them to send teams to Adjumani and beyond, possibly into the war-torn South Sudan. One African pastor said to our team two years ago "no one goes up there." May God go before us!

We then will proceed to...
KAMEMBE, DR CONGO BORDER AND THEN TO KIGALI, RWANDA

Last summer we taught a course on "A Christian View of Suffering and the Ultimate Triumph in Christ". This teaching was very deep and challenging. The significance of this instruction was due to the history of the regions in which it was taught. These people have suffered under the genocide that wiped out 80% of the Tutsi population (over one million people). The Churches have not been given God's sufficient answers and comfort in the midst of such suffering. Hearts were moved and it was obvious in the faces of the pastors.

Now our team is returning to reteach the same material for an entire week in each region in order to equip Certified Course Instructors. This will be with a group of 18 of the top leaders in each region who will in turn also demonstrate their understanding by teaching the same in our presence. This will verify their grasp of the material. They will then take the course and travel in teams to instruct their peers in each area.

The same approach will be taken in the third week in the capital city of Rwanda where the genocide actually originated. The necessity of hearing God's Word to heal and restore is so essential.

Thank you for your prayers and financial partnership in this ministry to many leaders. This is truly beyond anything I can imagine.

THEY ARE WAITING...
