Coffee Talk

With Marc & Denise Atchley

Roughly two thousand years ago, on a quiet night, God sent an angel ("messenger") to men watching over sheep in fields surrounding the small Judean village of Bethlehem to proclaim news almost too wonderful to believe -- "the Savior has come!"  Years later this Savior would send out his disciples (and all of us who would become disciples after them) to proclaim news almost too wonderful to believe -- "the Savior has come, has purchased our salvation with His own death, has proven His supremacy by His resurrection and ascension into heaven, and has promised His return when He will deal a final blow to death and to all His enemies."

We consider it an honor beyond belief that God would send us as messengers to proclaim this news in Greece.  But it is not just us who have this privilege, it belongs to everyone who helps to send us there!  We want to take these "good tidings of great joy" to the people in Greece -- both Greeks and immigrants -- and we ask you to partner with us in this wonderful assignment!

We were so encouraged by the folks who were able to join us for our Coffee Talk: Live! event on December 5th!  A number of you were there, as well as some others who are just learning about this call to Greece.

Some of you "cupped" coffee for the first time, and we are so thankful to Philip Hatter and Cody Barnhart, both of Vienna Coffee Company, for leading that demonstration!  We heard from Amanda Armstrong with Beautifully Made Artisan Market who described the impact of handcraft ministries among the poor in Haiti as well as the importance of retail space in reaching consumers.  Kostanza Wentley (a Greek) and her husband Sean (an Associate Pastor at Dotson Memorial Baptist Church), gave us a glimpse into the current situation in her homeland and the pervasive coffee culture there.  We learned how at least one pastor, Ash Bramblett of Pleasant Grove @ College Street, has found Vienna Coffee House to be so instrumental for ministry.  And finally, Kurt Steinbach shared why his congregation at Cedar Point Church has committed to help send the Atchleys to Greece.

To those who came and to those who helped, we can't thank you enough for your encouragement and support!
